This page explains what we collect when you visit boalabs.io, why, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.

When you arrive from one of our flyers

Our printed flyers carry a QR code. Each code is unique to that flyer and the neighbourhood it was posted in, so when you scan one we can tell which flyer brought you here. That is the entire point of it. It tells us which flyers are worth printing again and which ones to stop making.

When you scan a code we record which flyer it was, the date and time, the general type of device and browser you used, and an approximate location worked out from your internet address.

That location is rough. It is usually only accurate to the city, and on a phone it often reflects where your mobile network connects rather than where you are standing. We do not know your address, and we cannot work out who you are from it.

We do not store your internet address. It is converted into a scrambled value that cannot be turned back into the original, and only that scrambled value is kept. This lets us tell a repeat visit apart from a new one without holding anything that identifies you.

Scan records are deleted automatically after a year.

The cookie we set

If you arrive from a flyer, we store one small cookie on your device for 90 days that remembers which flyer it was. If you later send us a message through the contact form, that flyer is attached to your message so we know how you found us.

That is the only thing the cookie does. It does not follow you to other websites, and we do not use it for advertising. Clearing your browser cookies removes it.

We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party tracking service. Everything described on this page is recorded on our own server.

When you contact us

If you fill in the contact form, we keep your name, email address, your message, and the flyer you came from, so we can reply and work with you. We keep it for as long as we are in contact and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back.

We do not sell it. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not add you to a mailing list you did not ask for.

Getting your data removed

Email hello@boalabs.io and ask. We will tell you what we hold and delete it if you want it gone. You do not need to give a reason.

One honest limitation: scan records contain no name or email, so if you scanned a flyer but never contacted us, there is nothing in that record we could match to you even if you asked. Clearing your cookies is the way to reset it.
