Field Chapel, completed in 2021, has been shortlisted in this year’s RIBA International Awards, which recognize the most significant new buildings outside the United Kingdom. The single-room chapel is cast entirely in rammed concrete, with a narrow triangular door as its only opening at ground level. Winners will be announced later this year.
Nightfall Gallery has been named one of the year’s best new museums in a roundup of recent cultural architecture. The gallery is built around a single reflecting pool and is designed to be seen only after dark, when its concrete and glass walls are lit entirely from within.
Threshold has been included in a traveling exhibition on contemporary garden pavilions, opening this year at three venues across Europe. The exhibition places the stone and glass pavilion alongside work by a dozen other studios exploring small structures in the landscape.
Quarry Bath has been shortlisted for an AIA Institute Honor Award in the international category. The stone bathhouse is built into the hillside above the valley it overlooks, using stone quarried from the mountain behind it.
Eleanor Marsh, founding partner, has been elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, an honor given to a small share of AIA members in recognition of significant contributions to the profession.
Reading House has been named to an annual list of the best small libraries completed in the last five years. The brick library is lifted off the ground on all sides, opening the reading room to the meadow that surrounds it.
